BSc. Human Resource Management

Background information:

The National Accreditation Board (NAB) in 1998 accredited Ghana Christian University College to offer courses leading to the award of certificates, diplomas, and degrees. Ghana Christian University College has since 1998 taken steps to introduce Bachelor Degree Programs in Accounting, Public Health etc. and now introducing BSc in Business Administration with options in Accounting, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Management, Banking and Finance among others in order to meet the growing demands of the fast changing and ever expanding economy. The programs are well-rounded, thorough, rigorous and practical-oriented and relevant to national, continental and global development. Each program curriculum covers a wide range of academic and professional disciplines that prepare students to meet the demands of a continually changing global economy. It also deals with the complex human and technological dynamics that form the core of today’s global technological age.

Aims of the Program

The knowledge and understanding of the human resources of an organization is pivotal to that organization’s success, irrespective of its size, industry and profit motive. The focus of human resources is to understand people, their needs and desires, relationships and interactions, thereby enabling organizations to be effective and to achieve and maintain an optimum level of efficiency. GhanaCU BSc (Hons) in Human Resource Management is designed to offer students the opportunity to examine and explore a combination of core concepts and methods covering the theory, principles and practices of human resource management. It seeks to provide an in-depth study of HRM using a combination of economic, political, psychological and sociological approaches; present the fundamentals of managing people alongside the industry functions of organizations; facilitate an understanding and awareness of current issues of human resource management in the modern economy; and promote and foster a range of professional transferrable interpersonal, communication, leadership and team building skills. 

Objectives of the Program. 

The aim of the BSc (Hons) in Human Resource Management (HRM) is to give students the knowledge, understanding and key skills that are required by today’s HR professionals and to enable students to effectively contribute to dynamic organizations.

Students who undertake this program will:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of key terms, theories/concepts and practices within the field of HRM;
  • Demonstrate competence in development and problem-solving in the area of HR Management;
  • Provide innovative solutions to problems in the fields of HRM;
  • Be able to identify and appreciate the significance of the ethical issues in HR.
  • Critically assess existing theory and practice in the field of HRM;
  • Be able to evaluate HRM related social, cultural, ethical and environmental responsibilities and issues in a global context.

  1. COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM:
  2. Core courses: 28 courses are required.
  3. HRM courses: 14 courses
  4. Elective course(s): there are 6 elective courses, 3 will be selected (one in semester 1 and two in semester 2 of level 400)
  5. Research component: Research methods will be taught in the first semester of level 300 and research paper will be written and presented in level 400
