BSc. Nursing

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The BSc in Nursing program fulfils the Ghana Christian University College’s mission, which is to nurture and equip leaders with a Distinctive Christian world-view to transform communities and organizations in which they serve. It contributes to the health services of Ghana in a vital and significant way in the health care delivery system; for it recognizes national health goals and is committed to participate in the implementation of National Health Policies and Programmes. It aims at identifying health needs of the people, planning and providing quality care in collaboration with other health professionals and community groups.

Aims of the program:

As global population is rising, there is a relative fall in the number of healthcare workers. With an increasing number of nurses migrating abroad, Ghana is facing an acute shortage of faculty and clinical practitioners in the field. This necessitates the initialization of more educational institutions to meet local, national and global demands for healthcare providers. Keeping in view World Health Organization’s (WHO) theme of working together for health, Ghana Christian University College initiated its Nursing Programme. The aims of the programme are to:

  • Train and develop high quality nursing staff to provide healthcare services up to the grassroots level, as well as to meet the global demand.
  • Prepare a graduate nurse to work as a frontline worker in the clinical and community fields, as well as in the educational arena.
  • Prepare graduates with a sound educational programme which is innovative and academically challenging in nursing to enable them to function as efficient members of the health team to assume responsibilities as professional and competent nurses in providing promotive, curative, and rehabilitative services.
  • Prepare nurses who can work skilfully in both rural and urban settings, to face and meet the growing global healthcare arena
