BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The primary objective of the BSc Banking & Finance is to develop leaders for the business, government, and educational communities and to assist them in making contributions to society. This is in sync with Ghana Christian University College’s mission, which is to nurture and equip leaders with a distinctive Christian world-view to transform communities and organizations in which they serve.

Aims of the program:

The BSc Banking & Finance degree is designed to program provides students with sound theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed in a rapidly evolving financial sector. This program blends finance and accounting in a way that equips students with well-grounded knowledge and expertise in finance. Students will deal with issues, concepts and methods that will facilitate effective analysis of financial markets and products. Graduates will be prepared for challenging yet rewarding positions in the financial sector and other organizations. Graduates will also be prepared to pursue professional courses to add value to themselves. In particular, graduates of this Option will find the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme very useful.

Objectives of the program:

The objectives are to:

  • To provide students with insights into the world of finance to enable them think clearly, critically and analytically.
  • To enable students to acquire a broad and analytical appreciation of finance.
  • To prepare students for successful careers in finance, general business management and other organisations.
  • To prepare graduates for higher academic and professional pursuits

Employment:

The target market includes, but is not limited to:

  • Private and Public sectors of the Ghanaian economy
  • Non -governmental organizations(NGOs)
  • Small and medium scale enterprises
  • Consultancy firms
  • Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies(MMDAs)
  • SADA
  • Millennium Development Authority
  • Mining Companies

COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAMME:

  1. CORE COURSES: 28 courses are required.
  2. BANKING & FINANCE COURSES: 14 Courses
  3. Elective course(s): There are 6 elective courses, 2 will be selected (One in Semester 1 and Two in Semester 2 of level 400)
  4. Research component: Research Methods will be taught in the first semester of level 300 and research paper will be written and presented in level 400
